Posset Singers have suspended rehearsing in the church hall due to the current Coronavirus restrictions, however, we will be rehearsing via Zoom teleconferencing software. All members will require an internet connection and an appropriate device to take part, i.e. smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer with a video camera. We may be able to assist if you do not have a device.
You will be welcome to try a teleconferencing rehearsal for free, as a taste of the Posset Singers choir and if you enjoy the choir you would be welcome to join us. The fees are going to remain the same as they were with physical rehearsals.
Posset Singers have created support groups for members, to help people overcome the isolation due to the new restrictions and provide practical help to members restricted to their house due to self-isolation, illness, or by being a member of a vulnerable group.
We are also running virtual social evenings in our virtual pub "The Posset Arms", including pub quizzes and other events.
Don't forget to check out our lockdown performance of Bobby Darin's Things
Posset Singers is a friendly community choir based in Portishead, run by the members, for the benefit of its over 50 members. It aims to be inclusive and welcoming to people from 16 years upwards whatever their musical ability, music is provided but reading music is not a requirement (many of our singers do not read music). We learn by ear and auditions will not take place. The music sung includes a cappella arrangements of rock, pop, soul, folk, musical theatre, film music and festive songs in the autumn term. A main objective for the choir is to perform in public at appropriate events. Whilst making music together is the founding principle, the choir aims to do so in a manner which promotes friendship and togetherness, to this end the organisation of regular social events is also an important objective. We also fundraise for local charities.
New members are welcome, if you are considering joining, please come along to any session to see if you will enjoy singing with us, your first session is free. If you have any questions, then please e-mail us at email@example.com. The very best time to join is at the beginning of a term, but as there are mp3 recordings for all of the parts, for all of our songs on Dropbox, you can catch up with the rest of the choir on songs we already know. You can listen and learn in your own time. There will always be some songs you will need to catch up on, as we do carry songs over from previous terms.
Our charity for 2019 was Portishead Christmas Lights, the total raised was £1412
Our charity for 2018 was Penny Brohn Total Raised £800
